16.2.3.2 Scanning electron microscopy (SEM)

SEM is a common method to observe the microstructure of materials. In the field of metal corrosion protection, it is usual to observe the corrosion morphology of metal and the microstructure of the protective film formed on the metal surface [18]. By comparing and analyzing the surface micromorphology of metal after dipping in solutions with and without corrosion inhibitors, the inhibitive performance of the studied corrosion inhibitors on metal can be visually evaluated.
